Engineering for Intensive Crops Post-Harvest Techniques for Special Crops

Authors:
Abstract:
Over the last years, post-harvest technology for horticultural crops has considerably progressed, especially in packaging and in the application of information technology for control processes. Despite the significant progress in the development of non-invasive techniques for quality assessment of fruits and vegetables, the pace for adoption of these technologies by the industry has been slow [6]. The use of 1-MCP can help to reduce CO2 output and to save energy costs without worsening the fruit quality. Current studies on losses of food occurring along the entire food chain make assessment of their magnitude. The studies identified the cause of these food losses and provided possible solutions to prevent them.
