Machinery and Techniques in Poultry Husbandry
Abstract:
The article gives a brief overview of the existing basic conditions in the poultry industry in Germany. Animal welfare is increasingly in the focus of public debate, so that alternative farming systems are gaining in importance. In the fattening of turkeys the offer of a veranda could be a possible alternative to conventional husbandry systems. The results of investigations showed that the turkeys use a veranda without serious, negative impacts on the animal behavior, the animal health or the animal performance. For broilers, a new concept was developed that was established under the name "Privathof". Other main fields of the paper deal with the use of LED lamps in poultry houses and gender determination in the unincubated egg.
