Machinery and Techniques for Cattle Husbandry
Abstract:
Considering the given conditions, the structural change in dairy farming will continue. Therefore, automated techniques are increasingly used for different tasks. The offered range of systems for automatic feeding is being continuously expanded. The tendency to automatic milking of medium-sized herds continues, but with regional differences. For large herds, the first commercial automatic rotary was installed in Europe. The sensor-based animal monitoring needs further development and optimization. Sensor systems for mastitis and estrus detection are in a more advanced development stage than sensor systems for detection of lameness and metabolic problems. The indoor positioning of cows is still in a development and test phase, but first commercial solutions are available.
