Revision of the StVZO
Abstract:
After nearly 80 years of StVZO, for the first time a complete revision of the central vehicle technical regulations in Germany is close to completion. There will not be spectacular technical reforms, because an essential principle of the recast is: "Everything that was previously approvable remains in the future." The benefit for the legislature is, that there is no, or a limited adaptation of road traffic legislation necessary after a modification or updating of international rules. Through the future nature of recommendations of the peer review recommendations instead of rigid regulation texts, a number of so far purely formalistic required exemptions are dispensable in the future. The new StVZO (German Road Traffic Licensing Regulations) will apply only to vehicles which will first be placed on the market after their entry into force (maintenance of acquired rights).
