Tractors Tractor Engines and Transmission

Abstract:
Both, the improvement of fuel economy and the reduction of CO2 remain central objectives of tractor development. Tractor tests by DLG PowerMix demonstrate that the power trains are still improved in efficiency in spite of stronger emission regulations. They are meanwhile at least as strong as those of EU passenger cars. A future stage V for tractors will probably require a general introduction of particle filters. Two transmissions are described: A first of Same Deutz-Fahr with 12 power shifted speeds and a second the new Fendt "VarioDrive" with hydrostatically working (lockable) differential between the axles. Research is going on for electric tractor drives. CVTs with internal power split are discussed again due to a series production and a broad basic research work.
