Reducing ammonia emissions and increasing animal welfare in pig keeping
Abstract:
While considerable emission reductions in pig keeping have been achieved in nutrient adjusted feeding, manure storage and disposal in recent years, pig stables are still relevant emission sources. The reconstruction of pig stables should contribute to more animal welfare which provides animals with more space and outdoor climate contact. A livestock reduction is required through this which again contributes to an emission reduction. Therefore, numerous research activities concentrate on indoor stable measures to reduce ammonia emissions and to generate emission factors which are important for the approval of new livestock buildings. Besides high efficiencies actual research on exhaust air treatment systems show that this technique is well suited for bigger and forced ventilated pig stables.
