History of Agricultural Engineering
70 years of Agricultural Machinery Engineering in Cologne 1949 - 2019
Abstract:
In 1949, the agricultural machinery education department was set up at the Cologne engineering school as the sixth department specializing in agricultural machinery technology. This was Germany's first engineering school in this field. As the founder, Dr. Erich Schilling was appointed the 1st Director, a position that he held until his retirement in 1966. The education center was founded in 1822 as a commercial college with a technical focus. A four-semester course was opened in 1879. In 1903, the sponsorship was transferred to the Prussian State. In 1938, it was renamed the State Engineering School in Cologne. The further development in Germany from engineering schools to Universities of Applied Sciences came to an end in 1971, due to the establishment of the new type of university.
