Aggravation of ammonia emission reduction demands from livestock
Abstract:
The present report describes the manifold challenges German livestock is faced with in the coming years. Livestock should become more species-appropiate, which is normally connected with an increased floor space supply and feasible outdoor contact for the animals. Without other compensation measures, the abdication of tethered housing will result in higher ammonia emissons. An emission reduction in outdoor stables for pigs can be achieved only if emission relevant spaces are reduced by establishing function areas. Contaminated areas need to be cleaned regularly at frequent intervalls. For bigger livestock units, which are embraced by the Federal Immission Control Ordinance, higher emission reductions are demanded in the Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control and specified in this report.
