General Development DLG-Agrifuture Insights: Countering regulations and changed production conditions

Abstract:

Agricultural businesses need to face the challenges of increasing regulations, high levels of bureaucracy and changing production conditions due to climate change and need to find solutions. German arable farmers saw the economic business situation in 2023 as slightly worse than in the previous year. In addition, their willingness to invest has declined significantly. On the other hand, pig farmers rate their economic situation currently better than in previous years and are willing to invest again. Resource conservation and energy efficiency are the focus of technology trends in arable farming. The participants are hoping for innovations in the areas of plant breeding, crop protection and fertilization. In terms of environmental and climate protection, additional adaptations to climate change are being sought through adapted crops, efficient water management and a reduction in diesel consumption.
