Abstract:
The XXV. International Grassland Congress in Covington 2023 was for many grassland user an important event. The next International Grassland Congress will be held in Leipzig in 2027 to mark the 100th anniversary of this event. The optimum cutting time is of great importance when preparing wilted silage. In general, low levels of yeasts, moulds and putrefactive bacteria should be ensured during ensiling because they decrease the quality of the feed and lead to a reduced milk yield. Technical innovations in the reporting period are dealing with silage spreaders and compactors, technical aids for handling silage films, dosing of silage additives on a square baler, automatic removal of silage from a horizontal silo and an improved mobile dryer for square bales. Take-back and recycling systems were established for the recycling of old silage films, twines and wrapping nets.
