Livestock Engineering Machinery and Techniques for Cattle Husbandry

Abstract:
Further development in dairy husbandry is characterized by growing herd sizes and increasing claims for sustainability and social acceptance. The general tendency to automation can also be observed in dairy husbandry. Various automatic feeding systems are offered on the market in the meantime. Besides the well-known automatic milking systems the first automatic rotary systems have been installed in large dairy herds. Regarding animal monitoring, automatic registration of feeding behavior becomes more important. For the first time a body-condition-score sensor is commercially available. Concerning herd management, mobile and web-based software solutions are increasingly developed and implemented.
