History of power transmission technology
Abstract:
For centuries, muscle power and the energies of water and wind were the basis of all power transmission systems. The techniques were continually developed but remained intact. The use of steam power formed the foundation of industrialization at the end of the 18th century for the production of industrial goods and the mass transportation of people and goods. At the same time, the use of fossil fuels was beginning. With the invention of internal combustion engines and electric motors, production of industrial goods was no longer dependent on a single power source. As a result, direct power drives for mobile machines and vehicles as well as commercial transports were achieved.
